Dr. John McDougall’s phrase “the fat you eat is the fat you wear” emphasizes the direct relationship between dietary fat intake and body fat accumulation. His stance is that all fats, including those considered “good” fats like nuts, oil and avocados (🥑 yep, I know it’s international avocado day and they do have value and nutrients but not if one is over their ideal weight). These fats can contribute to weight gain and obesity if consumed in excess. McDougall advocates for a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet to prevent and reverse obesity and other health issues. These “good” fats are calorie-dense and can hinder weight loss efforts, particularly in those already struggling with obesity.
