For this Wellness Wednesday, let’s talk about why I choose to cook oil-free, even with “healthy” oils like coconut or avocado.
Why Go Oil-Free?
Oils, even the “good” ones, are still 100% fat with little to no nutritional value. They’re empty calories that can lead to weight gain and harm your heart health. Oils contribute to inflammation, clog arteries, and slow down your metabolism. Plus, just 1 tablespoon packs over 120 calories—easy to overdo!
🛑 Hazards of Oil
-
- Heart Health: Oils damage arteries and promote plaque build-up.
- Weight Gain: Calorie-dense and lacking fiber, oils make it harder to feel full.
- Inflammation: Oils, especially when heated, increase free radicals and disease risk.
💚 How I Cook Without Oil
-
- Water or Veggie Broth for sautéing.
- Parchment or Silicone Mats for baking.
- Get healthy fats from whole foods like avocados, nuts, and seeds.
Cooking oil-free has transformed my health and can do the same for you! Want to learn more? Let’s chat to see if I can help you with either a tailor-made Wellness Weekend in your home or mine OR a Virtual Consulting package.
I started out several years ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
