Happy Wellness Wednesday! Today, we’re exploring the magic of tofu—a versatile, nutrient-packed plant-based staple that deserves a spot on every plate. Plus, I’ll share a simple tip to make it irresistibly crispy for your next meal!
Why Tofu?
Tofu is more than just a protein source—it’s a wellness superstar. Here are a few reasons to include it in your plant-based lifestyle:
- Rich in Plant Protein: Tofu is a complete protein, providing all nine essential amino acids. Perfect for keeping you energized and full.
- Packed with Nutrients: It’s high in calcium, iron and magnesium, supporting strong bones and overall health.
- Hormone Balance: Tofu is made from soy, which contains phytoestrogens that can help regulate hormones, especially during menopause.
- Heart Health: Studies show soy-based foods like tofu may help reduce LDL cholesterol, lowering the risk of heart disease.
Crispy Tofu Made Easy
If you’ve struggled to get that restaurant-quality crisp on your tofu, here’s the trick: cornstarch or potato starch!
Here’s how to do it:
- Press the Tofu: Remove excess water by pressing the tofu for at least 15 minutes. If using super firm, it will cut the time as it contains less water.
- Cut Into Cubes: Slice into your desired shape—cubes, strips or slabs.
- Coat with Starch: Toss the tofu in cornstarch or potato starch until lightly coated.
- Cook to Crispy: Pan-fry in a non-stick skillet (oil-free or with a light spritz of water) or bake at 400°F for 25 minutes, flipping halfway.
The result? Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and ready to pair with your favorite sauces and veggies!

Here’s to wellness, one crispy bite at a time.
I started out several years ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
