This Thankful Thursday, we’re showing appreciation for a small but powerful ingredient that transforms everyday cooking, Paprika.
Paprika is made from dried and ground peppers and its flavor can range from mild and sweet to deep and smoky depending on how it’s processed. It has strong roots in Hungarian cuisine, where it became a defining spice in traditional dishes like stews and soups, adding both color and warmth without overwhelming heat.
There are a few key varieties worth knowing:
- Sweet Paprika: Mild, slightly fruity and the most commonly used type. It adds color and gentle flavor without spice.
- Smoked Paprika: Made from peppers that are dried over wood fires, giving it a rich, smoky depth that brings bold flavor to dishes like chili or pinto beans.
- Hot Paprika: A spicier version that adds heat along with its earthy flavor, often used in smaller amounts.
What makes paprika so special is its ability to completely change a dish with just a pinch, turning something simple into something layered, warm and deeply flavorful.

I started out over 10 years ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
