Many women report changes in appetite during menopause, including feeling hungry more often, experiencing stronger cravings or feeling less satisfied after meals.
Researchers are still studying exactly why this happens. Hormonal changes during menopause may affect the body’s hunger and fullness signals and factors such as sleep disturbances, stress and changes in activity levels may also play a role.
The good news is that certain foods can help promote fullness and satisfaction. Meals built around fiber-rich foods such as beans, lentils, vegetables, fruits, whole grains and of course potatoes tend to be more filling while also providing important nutrients.
Fiber helps slow digestion and can help you feel satisfied longer after a meal.
If you’ve been feeling hungrier lately, it may be worth taking a look at what’s on your plate before assuming something is wrong.
