Have you ever walked into a room and forgotten why you were there? Or found yourself searching for the right word during a conversation? Many women notice occasional brain fog, forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating during menopause as estrogen levels naturally decline.
The good news is that what you eat may help support your brain. A colorful, whole-food, plant-based diet provides important nutrients that nourish both the brain and body. Berries and leafy greens are packed with antioxidants that help protect brain cells, while walnuts, flaxseeds and chia seeds provide plant-based omega-3 fats that support normal brain function.
No single food is a magic solution, but consistently filling your plate with a wide variety of colorful plant foods is one simple way to care for your brain throughout menopause and beyond.
And remember, plant-based eating isn’t just about salads! As mentioned above, walnuts are incredibly versatile. I use them in my Jimmy Pesto instead of pine nuts and they’re also wonderful blended into plant-based “meatloafs” or veggie burgers, adding wonderful texture, richness and wholesome nutrition to everyday meals.
Here’s to nourishing your mind, one delicious bite at a time!

I started out over a decade ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
