Happy Savory Saturday,
When we think of oregano, most of us picture Italian sauces or Mediterranean meals. But oregano has more than one story to tell. Classic Mediterranean oregano brings warmth and depth to pasta dishes, pizzas and slow-simmered sauces, while Mexican oregano has a brighter, citrusy note that pairs beautifully with beans and spicy flavors.
In my kitchen, I use oregano often:
- You’ll find it in my Marinara sauce.
- I also love it in my Mediterranean Bowl, where oregano and mint bring life to chickpeas.
- And for a twist, I add Mexican oregano to my refried beans for a flavor you might not expect.
Oregano shows us how one herb can travel across cuisines and bring its own voice to every dish. If you’d like to try one of these recipes, simply hit reply, I’d be happy to share them with you.
With flavor and gratitude.

I started out over 10 years ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
