This week, I’m celebrating Rainier cherries.

With their beautiful golden-yellow skin kissed with a blush of red, Rainier cherries are known for their juicy texture, delicate flavor and lower acidity compared to traditional dark cherries. Because they are more fragile and bruise easily, they’re often considered a specialty cherry and are only available for a short time each summer.

One of my favorite ways to enjoy them is simply as a fresh snack. Their natural sweetness makes them perfect on their own, but they also work beautifully in a simple fruit bowl alongside berries, peaches or melon.

If you’re looking for a light summer dessert, try serving pitted Rainier cherries over nice cream or adding them to a chilled fruit parfait. Their delicate flavor pairs wonderfully with other seasonal fruits.

Have you tried Rainier cherries yet this season? If so, I’m curious, what’s the price per pound where you live?
