Today, I’m especially thankful for the farmers and gardeners who work so hard to grow the fresh fruits and vegetables that nourish us. Whether it’s a large family farm or a backyard garden, every harvest represents time, patience and care. Their dedication also helps keep many local communities thriving and supports more sustainable ways of growing food.

Have you ever noticed how different a freshly picked ear of homegrown corn tastes compared to one from the grocery store? The sweetness, freshness and flavor are often unforgettable. Friends have generously shared vegetables from their gardens with me over the years and those simple gifts always remind me just how special freshly harvested produce can be.

I’ve also discovered some of my favorite seasonal treasures by stopping at small roadside stands run by local gardeners. From unique varieties of hot peppers to fresh garlic scapes and other homegrown finds, those unexpected discoveries have introduced me to flavors I might never have experienced otherwise. Over the years, I’ve even had the pleasure of getting to know several Amish families by stopping at their stands and supporting their communities.

Today, let’s take a moment to appreciate the hands that plant, tend, harvest and share the beautiful foods that end up on our tables.

Is there a fruit or vegetable that tastes especially memorable when it’s fresh from the garden?
