For this Savory Saturday, I wanted to talk about something that feels truly special when it shows up, ramps.
Ramps (wild leeks) are one of those ingredients people genuinely wait all year for. They grow wild in the forest floors of the eastern United States and parts of Canada, usually in rich, shaded woodlands for a very short window in early spring.
Their bold garlic-onion flavor is unlike anything else and it really shines when you keep things simple and let it speak for itself.
I love using them in a quick sauté, folded into warm grains or added to a simple dish where their flavor can stand out. They don’t need much, just a little attention and the right pairing.
Because they’re so seasonal, it always feels like a small moment to appreciate when they’re available.

I started out over 10 years ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
