“Detox” has become one of the most popular words in the wellness world.

From juices and teas to supplements and cleanses, it seems like everyone is looking for a way to help their body detox.

But here’s something worth remembering, your body already has its own built-in detoxification system.

Your liver, kidneys, digestive tract, lungs and skin are working around the clock to help process and remove waste products from the body.

Rather than searching for a quick fix, many health experts recommend supporting these natural processes through everyday habits such as eating fiber-rich foods, staying hydrated, moving your body regularly, getting adequate sleep and even breaking a sweat through regular physical activity.

One of the reasons I love a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle is that it naturally provides many of these supportive habits. Fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils and whole grains supply fiber and beneficial plant compounds that support overall health and normal digestive function.

The truth is that healthy living is usually much less exciting than the latest detox trend.

It’s often the simple things we do consistently that make the biggest difference.

And speaking of simple ways to support your health, stay tuned for a special evening edition in honor of National Herbs and Spices Day. We’ll take a look at how herbs and spices can add more than just flavor to your meals.
