Happy Wellness Wednesday,
Sometimes, the quietest ingredients do the most work. Bay leaves may not get the spotlight, but they play an essential role in building depth and warmth in dishes.
When simmered in soups, stews, sauces or even rice, bay leaves slowly release subtle herbal and slightly floral notes, enhancing the whole dish without ever taking over. In fact, if you’re cooking in an Instant Pot, like with my re-“fried” beans recipe or my Mushroom Bourguignon, you’ll usually find them floating on top once the pressure releases. A little reminder of their quiet contribution.
Beyond the kitchen, bay leaves have also been linked in tradition to soothing digestion and promoting relaxation. Simple, humble, yet quietly powerful.
So next time you’re making something slow and hearty, drop in a bay leaf or two and let the magic happen.

I started out over 10 years ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
