When I first started my business over a decade ago, I resided in Ohio and frequented Buell Homestead Farm Market. That’s where I was first introduced to Sugar Cube cantaloupe. I bought one for my son and we absolutely loved it!
Fast-forward all these years later and while I was visiting my grandsons in Ohio, I happened upon Sugar Cube cantaloupes again at an Amish produce stand. Of course, I had to introduce my grandsons to them, too! We picked one up, brought it home and the boys loved it just as much as my son did all those years ago.
There’s something so special about a food bringing back memories like that and even sweeter when you get to share it with the next generation.
Here’s something interesting about Sugar Cube cantaloupe: Brix is one way we measure the sweetness of fruits. A higher Brix number generally means a sweeter fruit. Sugar Cube cantaloupes are often around 13–14° Brix, which helps explain their naturally sweet flavor.
I haven’t seen Sugar Cube cantaloupes in Florida at all, so finding them again in Ohio was such a fun surprise. It reminded me of how many wonderful varieties of fruits and vegetables are out there just waiting to be discovered.
Have you ever tried a Sugar Cube cantaloupe?

I started out over a decade ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
