Split peas might seem simple, but not all split peas are the same.
When it comes to green vs. yellow split peas, the difference goes beyond just color. Green split peas have a slightly earthier, more robust flavor, while yellow split peas are milder and a bit sweeter.
Both are incredibly nourishing, rich in plant protein and fiber and perfect for creating comforting, satisfying meals.
Ever wondered why they’re “split” in the first place? It actually goes back centuries, drying and splitting peas helped them cook faster and made them easier to store for long periods, which is why they became a staple in so many traditional cuisines around the world.
One of the ways I enjoy using them most is in a simple, satisfying soup, like my Split Pea and Chard Soup. It’s the kind of dish that’s easy to make, filling and something you can enjoy any day of the week.

I started out over 10 years ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
