As the Winter Solstice is here, we’re entering the deepest part of the season, the shortest days, the longest nights and a natural invitation to slow down, warm up and nourish ourselves a little more intentionally. It’s a time traditionally honored with comfort, grounding foods and simple rituals that help us feel supported.
For me, that comfort looks like my New England “Damn” Chowder. Creamy, hearty and deeply satisfying, this version brings all the nostalgic warmth without the heaviness. It’s the kind of meal that warms you from the inside out, perfect for cold nights, quiet evenings and honoring the season we’re in.
This chowder is grounding and filling, made for winter days when you want something simple, nourishing and familiar. Whether you’re marking the solstice intentionally or just feeling the pull to rest and refuel, this is one of those dishes that truly fits the moment.

As the light slowly returns, may your meals be warm, comforting and deeply nourishing.

I started out over 10 years ago watching Forks Over Knives, decided to “try out” the plant-based meal plan and had shockingly incredible results. I’ve never turned back. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and that is just one side effect that me, my family, friends and clients have experienced after making the change.
Having been an incredible cook my entire adult life, I started my own personal chef service, NuYu Nourish, to extend my help to others. I interned under a celebrity chef, became a celebrity chef myself and have been expanding my reach and goals ever since! My plan follows strictly and simply those of Dr. Mcdougall, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Esselstyn.
